'Safety and Self-Défense' workshop
for our girl candidates in association with a sports association named DO-Karate. The trainers taught the girls many self-Défense tricks and techniques to develop confidence in them. Orientation and discussion were held at both centers on safety precautions used at road, home, public places and also in family gatherings. The topic of prevention of child abuse was also discussed in detail so that the students could guide their younger siblings and other child residing in their community.
In our trainer’s words, Self-Défense is not just a set of techniques, it’s a state of mind and it begins with the belief that you are worth defending. The resource person, Mr. Ajay Saini, is an expert in mixed martial arts and has been teaching this skill to women from 10 years, as a part of some of his Right to Safety Programs.
Apprising the students about the importance of Self-Défense, Mr. Saini said that one needs to tap one’s hidden physical strength and learn to RESPOND, not REACT. He motivated the students to speak up about such crimes and gave them tips about what to do if they are trapped in an undesirable situation. He also gave the students a demonstration of street fight techniques in real life scenarios.
